Twitter has rolled out the new 10,000 characters limit

Twitter dropped the 140-character limit from direct messages, bowing down to the number one request of users giving them the freedom to say what's on their mind without having to be bother about word limits. Of course there is still a word
limit, up to 10,000 characters to be precise.

Twitter has rolled out the new 10,000 characters limit for direct or private messages for its mobile app, desktop
app, as well as the web. This brings Twitter's direct messages closer to being an instant messenger of sorts. We know that Twitter has been exploring the idea of a stand-alone messaging app built
on direct messages, on the lines of Facebook Messenger for a long time now. There's still no clarity on that though.
Direct messages -- unlike standard Tweets -- are personal; therefore, lifting the character limit off them is indeed a
handy step. The company has been working to improve direct messages over the past year or so. Recently, it added the ability to send links, have group
chats with photo sharing and share tweets natively inside the direct messages. It also introduced a tweak that let users send direct messages to strangers (those you don't follow) and reply to their messages as well. At the same time, Twitter has made clear that the 140-character limit of tweets will continue as usual.
